American Tabacco and European Consumers
When tobacco was first widely used it was considered a wonder drug of epic proportions. It was available to everyone, including children, but was an expensive commodity, til the European settlers made it less expensive by harvesting and purposefully growing and exporting the drug. Most people became addicted to the tobacco and became sick from it. They would inject it, drink it, eat it, smoke it, any way to get it to the bloodstream.
